The P-51 was the best fighter the U. S. had in the war. It started as a British deal, and the guy who sold it was a genius or a lunatic. It had a cool wing design but had a temper with the Allison engine. When it got the Merlin engine, it kicked ass and took names, even fighting off the first jet fighter.
My teacher said the P-51 was like a kid with a new toy, but it didn’t like the old engine.
The Merlin engine was like giving a lion a sword.
That plane could take on a jet and not even break a sweat.
